Customer Reviews: Samsung UE40F6800 40-inch Widescreen 1080p Full HD 3D Slim LED Smart TV with Dual Core Processor (New for 2013)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
For a 40' tv the UE40F6800 appears to be expensive, and for a 40' tv - it is. But the 6800 package is much, much more than just a tv as I was about to find out.
Opening the box you will find secreted in the top layer packaging your 2 pairs of active 3D glasses, the two silver mounting feet and accessory pack containing your normal Samsung remote, an additional Smart Hub (with track pad) universal remote with Voice command function, an IR extender to enable your universal remote to function and control your other devices, cable tidy clips, 4 AAA batteries and your user paperwork with registration documents.
The tv is incredibly user friendly to set up. One you have affixed the feet to the set, all you need to do is plug it in, connect an AV source (a standard aerial for Freeview HD, a Satellite dish feed for Freesat HD, or a HDMI lead from your Sky or (in my case) Virgin Tivo box. The first time you switch on the tv it walks you through the initial set up, auto scanning for channels, linking to your wifi network via the in built wifi receiver and setting up apps such as Netflix, Love Film, BBC iPlayer, etc, etc...... All you need to do is use the up and down, left and right arrows and confirm your choices. The initial set up can take from 10 to 30 minutes depending on your internet speed and by how many apps you want to install. Also be prepared for a ten minute wait as the tv will update its software to the latest available on the initial installation.
The set itself is incredibly thin and a perfect candidate for wall mounting. The screen is surrounded by clear perspex type picture frame surround. Once you've set up the tv you can then adjust the picture and sound to your personal preferences. There are a wealth of options for colour, brightness, warmth, contrast, saturation, black levels as well as a good choice of different sound settings to choose from.
To test the set I connected it to normal external aerial lead for the FreeView tuner, a Tivo box, along with a Sony BluRay 3D dvd player. The first thing that impressed me was even without connecting the set to an external amplifier, the sound from the tv was immediately impressive. Given the extremely thin profile of the set, Samsung have done an amazing job with the onboard speaker system as the set delivers a wonderfully warm and spatial sound with good stereo separation.
I tested the picture viewing a variety of channels available on the Tivo box, and via the built in FreeView HD tuner. From both sources the quality was as expected (and as it should be) - quite stunning. The picture is pin sharp, crystal clear and a joy to watch. There was no colour bleed or pixelating. The set automatically detects a 3D source and switches over to 3D mode without having to be told to (unlike some older models). For testing 3DHD I used The Hobbit and I felt this is where this tv really excelled. I purchased a Samsung 50" tv last year and had quite happily watched various 3D programmes and movies on it. After seeing 3DHD on the 6800 I thought I had set something wrong on my 50" set...... The 3DHD images on the 6800 are simply amazing.... The depth and separation in 3DHD were jaw dropping and the picture clarity puts normal HD in the shade......
I also own a series 6 (2012 model) Smart tv and for web browsing I'd recommend Samsung VGKBD1000 Smart Wireless Keyboard for an easier experience, as using the remote control handset can become a little laborious......
The additional Universal remote (with voice control) will take some getting used to as it utilises a small track pad for many of its functions, but again, once set up and the IR extender is plugged into the tv, you'll have the convenience of being able to control your other devices using just the one handset.
So, to conclude. The Pros' - Everything. Ease of use, good sound output, one of the best pictures I've seen on any tv, an array of USB and HDMI inputs, built in FreeSat and FreeView tuners, future proof software and even live online help and support from Samsung technicians who can even perform diagnostics on the set if needed...... The set even learns your viewing habits and recommends other programmes it thinks you'll enjoy......
The Cons - none....! This review was written after only three days of using this tv, so I'll add any additional information I think may be useful in the coming weeks.
Samsung have produced a fabulous home entertainment system in their series of Smart TVs and they really are the way forward, so all I can say is spend that extra and go for the Smart TV experience - it's worth it and you'll be happy you did.

I've always wanted a good TV - I bought this after searching round for absolute ages, and not only is it good ... it's brilliant!! The picture is crisp, stupidly smooth, and it actually makes you wonder if you're on the film set of some films!
First thing I watched on it was Avatar in 3D - then I watched it again straight away! I couldn't believe how good it was for the price! I also got the Samsung HT-F5530 5.1 System to go with it, and it's like a match made in heaven! Needed to buy a couple of cables to get everything connected and working, but it's worth every penny!!
Definitely the best thing I've spent money on in the past couple of years! Made a great addition to my new home =)

Could not be happier. The picture quality is excellent (esp HD channels), the sound is very good for this kind of TV. The SMART HUB is easy to use and works a treat. If you're a big user of I-PLAYER (and who wouldn't be, the commercial channels are trash), you'll love this, no more Laptop, no more faffing about with a cable from Desktop to TV etc, no more watching on a tiny tablet. Mark your fav programs on the IP app on SH, and they're all stacked waiting for you. It's a real good way to manage viewing.
The 3D is also very good.
I have yet to try this TV in gamer mode, and I have not yet got to grips with the S-Reccomendation system. I will report back on those.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The Samsung UE46F6800 is a striking LED TV. The first thing you will notice is how slim it is. Then you'll notice the transparent border, which is a very nice touch. It actually makes the LED TV screen seem smaller. But, don't let that fool you it is a genuine 46 inch panel. The legs are actually plastic with a chrome effect finish. The legs are not actually chrome plating on metal. Nevertheless, it is sturdy when mounted on the legs and the panel itself looks very good.
The initial setup is a breeze. The TV software runs you through the whole setup from start to finish. The FreeviewHD and FreesatHD is very easy. FreesatHD took less than 40 seconds to complete while Freeview took 4-5 minutes, still pretty quick for todays standard. I also connected a wired ethernet connection, the Samsung picked this up automatically and low and behold it was complete. The whole process took 12-13minutes.
The first thing you will notice is the LED panel is very bright. As with most new LCD/LED TV's the settings out of the box are pretty bright and not suitable for standard viewing. Also my lounge is pretty bright, but even with the blinds shut, the TV was still too bright for my liking (I'll run the through the setup details after a few weeks of use, this will assist others in getting a better image/picture for daily viewing). Also, I couldn't notice any backlight bleeding (even though the was at 100%), clouding or dead pixels. So, the screen panel is very good indeed (but I also know this is a manufacturing process and affects certain panels to a varying degrees).
I tested the TV with many sources, As the TV is primarily a HD panel, I thought I would test the Standard Definition (SD) output. So, I tested this through conventional scart and a sky box. The results weren't anything to talk about. The images were okay, after turning off some processing functionality it was a little better, the images seemed softer and more suitable for daily viewing. Although, SD is not what this TV is about, and lets be honest normal Freeview or Freesat is better than average compared to other TV's in this class.
Now, HD is a different beast. The nice thing about this TV is that you have internet access so you can get yourself to AVFORUMS or YouTube and start off with the picture perfect videos, you can do this through YouTube (Search for AVForums PicturePerfect TV Calibration) and run through the 3 steps. These are very good and it will definitely improve the picture quality. Follow the advice and adjust the picture settings which you feel suits your daily viewing needs. You will notice that your contrast and backlight are way too high. If anything Movie mode is the best out of the bunch, I believe the movie setting is the closest to industry standard image setting, It closely resembles the optimum mode for viewing.
I actually modified the movie mode further as I still felt it was too bright for my personal viewing. But, after I had done this, the picture was splendid. The HD images were absolutely stunning. I have other HD TV's in my house and this TV beats them when it comes to HD images. The blacks are black and the colours are great. The HD images have so much detail and clarity. It really is that good.
First, thing I did was put a couple of Blu-rays on, like Amazing Spiderman, Thor and so forth. These are also 3D Blu-rays as well. But, the 2D images are "bootiful", I really do mean "BEAUTIFUL". The images and pictures really are crisp and clean. As I mentioned earlier you can see the amount of detail in bucket loads, plenty of clarity and depth to the whole picture. It really is a joy to watch movies, documentaries and cartoons on this TV. I noticed none of the old gremlins, like interference, the colours displayed are vast and very nice, everything just looked great.
Next, I played the 3D versions of the movies, now this TV comes with a pair of battery powered 3D glassesSamsung SSG-51002 Battery Operated 3D Active Glasses (Pack of 2)
These are very nice and light, I prefer the battery powered version, not only as they are cheaper but less things to go wrong with I believe, you can purchase rechargeable versions here Samsung SSG-3570CR Premium Compact Rechargeable 3D Glasses
Now the 3D truly shines on this TV, the 3D itself is very good and the pictures are clear and deep. As per before the detail is excellent. The Samsung truly shines with 3D content; I also couldn't notice any crosstalk to write home about. It was very slight on certain images, but you can barely notice it and only if you were really looking for it. Overall, 3D is truly the F6800 strong point, the 3D images are really sharp and colour depth and clarity are above par.
I know some folks prefer passive technology and not active like the tech Samsung UE46F6800 employs. But, I or members of my family have no issue with active 3D. If you do suffer from headaches and other symptoms with active 3D tech, then your best to look somewhere else.
The smart features are good, using and watching BBC Iplayer or 4OD are good. I only setup the wired connection as I have a Ethernet switch next to the TV. But, everything worked flawlessly. The free 3D content is also good. So, take a look if that kind of stuff interests you.
The new Smart remote is also very good, it's a bit like using a smart phone in some way. Also if you have a Samsung phone you can utilise allshare, which is also handy. But, the smart remote does make it easy to browse content, internet and navigate the TV. So, a thumbs up to the smart remote.
Also, I should mention the sound on this TV is well above average. I've had and do still have other LCD TV's and the sound on them are pretty awful. However, on this TV the sound is very good. I mean it's as good as my 2.1 soundbar which I have for my other room. The sound on movies is good and clear, the music and sonic's is good and clear as well. I was watching The Amazing Spiderman and the ending is full of action, but on this TV you can hear the gun fire clearly and you can hear the details in the background, the sound has plenty of clarity in it. So, for a TV this slim the sound is pretty excellent.
Overall, the TV is great. I think for the price to hardware ratio this TV is bang on the money. The only other TV's are the Sony range, but they are 300-400 pounds dearer or so.
The last thing I did was play a few games. I put on a few PS3 games like COD, Wipeout and so forth. At first the lag was pretty bad. I mean you could notice it straight away. However, you have to go into General settings and enable Game mode for your source. Once this was done, things were great. I played WipeoutHD in 2D and 3D. Although, I preferred 2D. I couldn't notice any lag, it was fast and furious. FPS like COD and Killzone were also good, the images are clear and was a blast on this screen again no noticeable lag, my inputs corresponded to what happens instantly on the screen. Motorstorm Apocalypse in 3D and 2D was awesome, although this game is much better in 3D.
So, on the gaming front, this TV is a blast. I do believe any serious gamer will enjoy playing gaming content on this TV.
I could probably go on, but I've said enough. This TV is brilliant for the price. It is fast and responsive and the clarity is great. The SD content is a touch soft and slightly smoothed, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing, it is SD after all (you just wont get the detail like HD). The HD is the king here and this TV truly shines with any HD content I threw at it. Worth it for the price and Amazon again cannot be beaten for the price and Amazon.co.uk is the cheapest for this TV as of now.
Another thing you can connect a external HDD to record content and also watch/view content on your external HDD or USB drive. Although, USB drives are not ideal. For recording you will need a external HDD. I've tested this out and works fine for HD content on external HDD only.
So, if you're looking for a new LED TV, this is definitely one you should shortlist on your list. It really is that good.

Got for the 55" version and I can honestly say I'm very happy I did. Cosmetically beautiful, cracking picture (after a little tinkering with the settings), very good sound for such an incredibly slim panel, and the icing on the cake for a gamer like myself is that there is very little if indeed no lag at all when playing online games such as COD. I've had a number of tv's in the last 5 or 6 years and as an all round tv this one is the best of them. If you've got pounds to spare go for the f7000, but for a few hundred pounds less, you will be happy with this tv, it does everything very well, just make sure you bring the backlight and contrast down a little in the settings along with the 'clear' option for the motion plus setting. All round a fantastic tv that will look perfect on your wall or on its attractive stand

We bought this TV (32" model) as it is one of the few with built in Freesat HD and we didn't want a huge TV to dominate the room. Samsung have a good reputation for screens in general, but the picture is superb and very sharp and clear from a wide viewing angle. We're especially happy with how easy it was to set up and there are no stability issues and actually impossible to put the legs on the wrong way around. Also with this model (New for 2013) the controls and navigation is really easy, so maybe this has been improved from previous models/posts. Would definitely buy this again.

if you can get a bigger size then do so. the spec for this TV is mental (wicked) . i really like the second remote which you just hover around the smart hub and apps etc. u cant actually hover the sky/virgin channels. i prefer the arc stand but this is also nice and neat. the talking function is annoying because it keeps asking to set the time. you dont get free 3d glassess you have to buy them separate. nice design. overall smart tv literally and light in weight. very easy to set up. out of box . gives out quite a bit of heat once the telly is used for a while. hope this helps guy s
