Awesome value for money TV, great quality., 10 Jun 2013

I picked up this HDTV at the weekend and so far I've found it to be 47 inches of wonder.
After the initial setup (which is very easy to do) I was a little underwhelmed by the picture quality.
However previous experience has taught me that out of the box settings are usually terrible so I broke out my AVS HD 709 calibration videos. These were on a USB HDD, and the TV just detected the HDD, popped up on the screen and I had full access to the calibration videos.
While calibrating the set I found it has two ISF certified picture modes, ideal for calibration. Once calibrated the HD quality improved so much. 2D content actually seems 3D at times due to exceptional black levels and sharp detail. 2D to 3D conversion is a joy to behold, especially if you change the 3D mode to 'Cinema'. BBC's Planet Earth was spectacular.

My Blu-Ray player is one of the first Samsung units, but even with a older player the true HD quality blows my socks off.
This TV really isn't at its best until you feed it top quality source material. I spun the 2D version of Avatar and my floor didn't leave the floor until the film had finished. Colors popped from the screen, but they weren't 'glowing' like you see in the stores. The picture was so sharp, so deep, I kept having to pause the film to take it all in.

Usually I disable anti-blurring modes on TV's as they can make movies look like a 'Soap Opera' but LG's TruMotion engine is excellent. There are 3 settings; Smooth, Clear and User. Smooth was a little too smooth for me, Clear was much better and really improved fast action sequences of Avatar.

I've yet to watch a 3D Blu-Ray as my player isn't compatible, but I did delve into the '3D World' the TV comes with. This lives in the 'Smart' area of the TV and you see a wide range of 3D content. It is streamed from the internet so a high speed broadband connection is recommended. I watched the Kylie Minogue 'Aphrodite' concert and I was very very impressed.
The TV comes with four pairs of passive (Polarised) glasses that are very light in weight and Stylish. They are much more comfortable that the ones you get at Movie theatres, so I will be taking these for the 3D film I go see.

As for the Smart TV apps, there are loads. I haven;t spent too much time running these as of yet, but Netflix works very well. Facebook is not great but lets face it, if you have a Apple, or Android smartphone the apps are always going to be better and easier to use on a mobile.

The TV automatically connects to UPNP sources such as my XBMC media center, and navigation is simple and easy. The TV has both Ethernet & wireless connections and setup is very easy. The TV can also be controlled via smartphone with the LG TV app over wifi. It works really well, giving you touch pad controls and a mouse pointer.

Overall I can't recommend this TV enough and for the price you won't be disappointed.

The design is great. Very light tom move. Easy to set up all the plugs are arranged for easy access. To the reviewer saying it seems to have dirty colour. You had the colour temp on 30 it should be around 60. Buy this tv very good value for your money.

Where to start?

I love this TV but it has some very minor issues, which are probably only me being picky.

Installation & Setup: A / I was wall mounting this TV so it was a little nerve racking and tricky but the TV is so light, I could manage it by myself. The initial setup of services is very straightforward using the built in wizard. However, if you are connecting to WiFi be warned that the default remote is a pain to use when inputting WEP/WSK/WPA codes longer than 8 characters. Mine is 26 and took 6 attempts before I realised that the remote was dropping key presses. Other than that, TV was usable within 5 mins. Another 'quirk', if you create an account and register this TV on the LG website, do not assume that those credentials automatically carry over to the LG Account on the TV in the Smart App section, a new registration is required from the TV but you can use the same information.

Picture: A+ / Even when using SD Freeview Digital the built in upscaler does a very good job of increasing the resolution and remastering the image. HD Freeview Digital is as expected, pixel perfect and crystal clear. TruMotion confused me to start with, it seemed to make moving objects seem superimposed rather than part of the scene, turning the TruMotion effect to Clear reduced this affect.

Picture 3D: A / The App store has some great examples of how good 3D can be and how poor it can be. However, after altering the 3D mode to Cinema, I found this disparity lessened out. I have yet to pass any external 3D source though the TV (Bluray / PS3) as I don't have the required length cables.

Sound: B- / And that is generous but only because I bought this TV knowing that the set speakers are rubbish. A standalone sound system IS required. Sounds have no depth to them and are awfully "tinny". Although, the Sound options themselves are very good, item such as ClearVoice II really work well and do an excellent job at projecting spoken voice, so you can lessen the effects of not having decent speakers.

Delivery: A++ / Now, I never pay for overnight delivery and when placing this order, I chose the Super Saver 3-5 day free delivery. Ordered the TV on Friday, it arrived the morning of the following day. Wow!

Questions:
1)Where's the Magic Remote for this TV? I need it.
2)Can this set be Firmware Upgraded (LG say the product code must end -UA. I can't see that anywhere and their upgrade manual uses information that's outdated).
3)I'm open to suggestions on a Sound System. However, it needs to be wall mounted and managed by the TV, not an AMP.

Overall, I would recommend this TV in a heartbeat but would suggest holding out for a price drop. I managed to snatch this one from Amazon for £499. ;)

This tv is brilliant for gaming it has a full screen, split screen function that makes it the top choice for people wanting to use it for gaming.
And these glasses you can use to wach a 3D movie in 2D if you dont like 3D while the rest of the people can enjoy 3D.

Fantastic, not a single regret!, 14 May 2013

I never purchased this Tv from Amazon, but if your like me i always search high and low through the internet for reviews on a product before i even think about buying it and usually Amazon is my first stop! well i struggled to find More than a handful of reviews which weren't really helpful, so here it goes!

We recently bought this Tv as an upgrade from our Lg plasma 32" tv that we have had for nearly 5 years!
First off, the size of this tv is just breathtaking, the look of the tv is fantastic, it is grey not black (one thing i wish i could change) But the bezel is quite small so you can't see much its just the tv stand itself.

I read so many reviews on other tvs about the sound quality being crap and i thought i don't want to pay £1300 for a tv to have to buy a sound bar for it to just sound good (more money) So we didn't and im glad we never! I mean yes a sound bar will inevitably make any tv sound fantastic but to us this sounds great without!

The smart side of the tv is Okay i expected a little more? I have no idea what i was expecting but im pretty disappointed that pretty much everything you have to pay for! I wish there were more free things... who wouldn't! There isn't much but i guess there a work in progress and more will be added ad time goes by.

3D! Well well well.... this really is something else, it says its cinema 3d, to me it's not as cinema 3d gives me a terrible headache and im yet to suffer anything from the TV. Our first movie, was my bloody valentine 3d while a poor film the graphics were amazing, blood splattered in our faces fire flames so realistic, it was just great! A great experience and our friends really enjoyed it! Glasses are also really comfy and light weight.

Another feature i love is the usb port at the back, as we have alot of dvds on our laptop transferring files over and putting them onto the tv has never been easier, its a feature that ill now not go without, ill never buy a tv without it.

I have to say something bad here...... We had it 2 days and it has a stuck pixel! Just one but when i paid this much.... i want a new one! So we got it replaced the next day, Lg customer service was fantastic and couldn't be more help. Quick response quick fix, very happy!

All in all a great tv and id recommended it over and over :)

I spent a long time looking for the perfect TV

I wanted it large, very thin, borderless, Passive 3D, Smart, WIFI, amazing picture - and all for a reasonable price.

This one hits pretty much all the points - with a few very minor compromises.

Large - YES
Very thin - YES
borderless - there is a border but it is very slight
3D - YES! Passive 3D is just as good as active, and the glasses are cheaper and easier to wear (no headaches)
Smart - YES (although no 4OD)
Wireless - YES - connects to my home network and I can stream movies
Amazing Picture - YES

I wasn't that concerned about sound as I have a seperate set-up - but it is quite good on its own.

So yes - a great buy.

The TV arrived in secure packaging and within 30 minutes was up and running perfectly. The screen size, 32", is adequate for our room and we are viewing from a distance of 2.5m to 3m. The HD picture quality is first class and the 3D impressive with passive glasses (4 pairs supplied). There are 3HDMI sockets and 3 USB sockets plus a Scart socket. Internet connection through a router is also there. What more could you want?

I was looking at buying a 2012 model from amazon but considering this one has only just been released I thought I would have the latest. Im so glad to have purchased this tv!! It does an awful lot and my laptop is going to be partly redundant apart from using it as a server for the tv.

Am confused about the Magic remote as it says 2012 version is available to buy from amazon (although not sure if this will work with 2013 tv??) but I have seen the silver remote with voice recognition advertised on UTube but cannot locate how I buy it. I would prefer the voice reconition/mouse remote.

I have downloaded a free LG app on my smart phone which makes it act like a mouse for the tv. This works fantastic!

I will say that the box did not explain how to sort out the stand as it was not clear what I needed to do. I tried twisting it into the base but it kept clicking. I realise now that there are 4 screws to go in each of the two stand parts.

Great picture and sound is good, although I may upgrade to a sound bar at some point. Was a bit disappointed it was not in black but on opening the box I was very pleased as its a dark grey rather than silver.

Very impressed with the picture quality, and the 3D function that can make a 2D image into a 3D one (although you won't benefit so easily if you normally wear glasses - the supplied 3D ones don't fit over existing spectacles). this has to be one of the most crystal clear images I've ever seen, and the fact that you can watch the Freeview HD channels (we don't have satellite) is another plus. Struggled and failed to get the wireless to connect, but we had a network connection to hand so I used that instead, and the web content available makes out old TV (10 years old) look like a prehistoric relic). Absolutely delighted with the TV. You will need a special LG web cam if you want to use Skype, and the magic remote control doesn't come with it, again a separate order (you do get the standard remote control though).
