This is the new and improved version of the EH5000, I have never seen the old model in action but the F5000 is supposed to have a much better video specification, apart from this the technical specs are the same. I chose the new and more expensive model because of the better video specs, because it's a slim model with a narrow bezel (the EH5000 is chunky at just 2 cm thinner than my 8 yrs old LCD Tv) and because I change TV every 7 or 8 years and so it made sense to buy the latest available model. One word of caution: do not buy this model because of the Ethernet port as this is completely useless, it's only for software updates; this TV is not DLNA compliant. Not an issue for me as I think Smart TV's are 90% marketing and 10% functionality, at least for now; an Android TV box or a media player will give you a REAL smart Tv for an extra 80£.
Back to the TV: coming from an 8yrs old LCD 26" Tv I have to say that the F5000 gives an amazing viewing experience. It's great when watching Tv channels but, OMG!, I loaded Avatar on dvd and the image blew me away! I cannot comment on audio as I use an external theater system.
Fantastic TV, if anything I regret not getting the 37" but wife wouldn't want to hear about it!
In a nutshell, this is the 2013 update on the EH5000 (now discontinued) with better video specs, slim design and a narrow bezel, plus a Ethernet port for updates only. Image quality is outstanding, looks good in the living room, discrete and non-invasive! Recommended.

Bought it a few weeks ago, got my mac and my xbox hooked up to it. Looks absolutely amazing. So very easy to set up. Lots of different visual settings to tinker with, so you can get an ideal picture for what you want. My old tv can't hold a candle to this new one. Very light and slim if thats what you value in a telly.
2 hdmi ports, 1 scart port, headphone slot, component cable slots, ariel port, and a lan port all of which are on the right hand side (looking from the front) This tv doesnt have "smart features" so the lan is just for updates I think.
It has no buttons on the top or sides, only a joystick-esque thing on the back to control it with should the remote go walk about. The remote is nice. It does what it says on the tin really.
Due to telly signal in my area being rubbish, I don't use it for watching tv as such. So I can't comment on that aspect of it.
The sound is good in my opinion with a couple of different audio options to choose from. Obviously the sound isn't as good as headphones or speakers so if you are being picky about it then use headphones or speakers, other wise the sound is more than good enough for me.
The power cable is about 2 metres long (possibly a little under)

I totally love this TV. I didn't buy this as my main tv (I have a Panasonic THX plasma in the lounge) but after seeing it next to the Plasma I'm tempted to keep this tv for the lounge.
The picture is really sharp, blacks are really black with good shadow detail and there is no bleeding or cloudiness (eg in the black letterbox bars).
The sound is reasonable although I use a THX audio system so won't use the speakers.
The TV itself was quite a bargain since it doesn't have any of the features I would not use like 3d, smart hub or 200Hz (or higher) which I'd turn off anyway.
I specifically chose this model since it's a backlit LED (not edge lit like previous Samsungs) and I think this really helps. In particular this TV can be bright. Turn up the backlight level to maximum and blacks stay black but it's bright enough for the sunniest rooms. You will need to turn it back down at night though unless you watch with sunglasses.
Overall fantastic value and great picture. Even if they were the same prices I would not consider the 7 or 8 series since they are edge-LED.
The Samsung model numbers took some understanding, so here they are explained:
UE46F5000
UE: European (UN are north American market and similar TV's if you want to check reviews)
46: screen size in inches
F: model year. 2013=F
5000: 5 series. 5000 = base model. 5300= extra hdmi+basic networking. 5500=more smart features. 6xxx = similar as 5 series but with 3D.
The only minus point for this TV is the lack of automatic 16:9 x 4:3 switching for HDMI inputs. I watch everything though a denon amp and hdmi. My Panasonic plasma and Toshiba LCD switch aspect ratios automatically (eg when watching a 4:3 DVD). The Samsung doesn't. You must manually switch aspect ratios. If your player can always output 16x9 (with sidebars for 4:3 material) then you will be ok. To no surprise Samsung players do this but others (eg Pioneer) output in the original ratio only and you will be changing aspect ratios by hand.

If you're looking for a non-3D tv then this is your perfect option! Fantastic picture quality and a great price. I was tempted by 'SMART' tv but I soon discovered that they're fairly pointless if you have a Playstation or Apple tv. More often than not you need a dongle to access any of the SMART features and the selection of apps depends on which make of tv you buy. I wasn't interested in 3D either and basically just wanted a full HD 1080p screen that I could hook up to various devices and this was the ideal choice. Highly recommended!

First of all, why did I buy this particular television and not one of the many others in this size / price range?
There are several reasons:
- the reviews about quality were very positive
- I have seen 3D and it wasn't a feature that I particularly wanted (do I really want to wear glasses over my glasses? and do I rent Blu-ray discs - no to both)
- I didn't want a "Smart" television as I have a PC permanently connected Lenovo VE74AUK Q190 Ultra Small Form Factor Desktop PC (Black) - Intel Celeron B887 1.5GHz Processor, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, LAN, WLAN, Integrated Graphics, Windows 8); a really excellent PC designed for just such a role and which can be updated as time goes on, whereas the Smart function is going to get more and more out of date as time goes on, and is far less flexible - my advice is to find an old PC and just connect it rather than buying a Smart TV, or buy the Lenovo at the same time if you can afford it.
Now, why I am so delighted?
- the picture quality is probably the very best I have seen; it's sharp, contrast is great; very little blurring; it is stunning
- the HD freeview channels (BBC1, BBC2, ITV1 and CH4 at the time of writing) look especially good
- 2 x HDMI plus a SCART means that I can connect everything I need to connect
- sound quality is good; often this can be an issue with flat-screen televisions
- remote control is well thought out and easy to use (I have a Toshiba and the EPG seems to be in a totally random place...)
- installation was a doddle (you need a Philips screwdriver to attach the base, but the electronic installation is completely guided)
- standby energy consumption is very, very low
- it is by appointment to the Queen and if it good enough for her, then it should be good enough for me!!!
So, no downsides that I can find and all good.
Highly recommended.

A few people have asked about the SCART connector as I mention one in the review above but neither Amazon nor eBuyer mention on their websites. To confuse further, the images do not show a SCART connector.
Just to be totally clear, I have bought this and it definitely does have a single SCART connector on the back. I have also uploaded a couple of pictures of the back of my TV to show the arrangement. It is very different from the Amazon picture of the connectors on the back.
Also, for info, the Samsung website tech spec does state is has a SCART input, but their pictures are incorrect as they do not show the back of this model....

Pro's
1. Quite slimeline, not super slim but it's fine.
2. The Quality is superb. HD in LED looks great.
3. The bezel is quite slim, much better than most models 1+ year old
4. Super light, I couldn't believe how light this tv was. You can lift it out of the box with one hand.
Con's
1. It's not super slim (But hey, for the price it's not bad!)
2. Ethernet port is only for updates. This is not a smart tv. (But I knew that before buying)
Overall 9/10! I knew what I was getting and there was nothing out of the ordinary. Very happy, hangs on my bedroom wall beautifully.

Incredible TV for the cost, the weight is only 5kg and if you've had a TV for the last 7 years like me then boy don't you notice that difference.
The sensor on the television to control the brightness of the screen is impressive and I would recommend every one has this option on.
HD channels are a plus too if you're only this for Freeview and the guide is user friendly and looks cool too.
Samsung have won me over again with yet another superb looking television that's both stylish and resourceful.
Smart TV this is not, but I didn't want a smart TV - why would I need one when I have access to the internet on my tablet?
No 3D another reason why I brought it, never am I going to purchase a 3D movie on Blu-ray its just a fad and call me old fashioned but I prefer the comfort of watching a film on the screen with surround sound, rather than wearing glasses that begin to irritant after an hour has passed by.
If you want a fantastic TV, without the premium extras (and really consider if they're worth it) then this is your pic.
One suggestion to Samsung though is I wish the remote would have a back light so you can see the buttons on it in the dark you can still make do and will get used to the remote in time.
